Vaccination of health care workers is part of what is considered to be primary prevention measures.
The Institute of Sanitary Surveillance in France, has issued a publication dedicated to the transmission of infections by health care workers to their patients. Dr Jean-François Gehanno, a labour-related medicine specialist at Rouen University Hospital declares that the vaccination of health care workers is crucial. He denounces «resistance to change and a lack of prevention mentality». Here in Québec, during the vaccination campaign against the flu in 2008, many hospital workers, particularly health care workers, contested not only the necessity of such a vaccination but even its efficiency. Faced with a new strain of flu this problem is once again brought to the forefront of health care issues.
