A massive hospital-wide initiative to improve patient safety has resulted in an unprecedented 94 per cent decline in the number of C. difficile cases at The Scarborough Hospital, General campus. This hospital is situated in Toronto East, Ontario. As of August 2008, Ontario hospitals must report publicly their rate of infection, an unprecedent effort towards greater public accountability and transparency.
