MRSA SURVIVORS SAY «SUPERBUB» AN EPIDEMIC IN THE UNITED STATE

E-mail Print

Chicago, Mars2010 - Jeanine Thomas, founder of MRSA Survivors Network declares «The Veteran's Administration hospital system is a shining example of taking action, using active detection through surveillance testing and contact isolation in intensive care units hospital-wide, and now in its long-term care facilities. "There is no reason why such an intervention is not mandated at all U.S. healthcare facilities," Thomas said in a statement. "More and more patients are dying of MRSA every day and many patients are left permanently disabled."

Founder, Jeanine Thomas started her advocacy work to raise awareness about MRSA and healthcare-acquired infections in early 2002. In 2007, Jeanine with Illinois state sen. Christine Radogno and state rep. Patti Bellock as lead sponsors introduced the MRSA Screening & Reporting Act. The bill passed unanimously on the final vote in the House on May 25, 2007, the first in the U.S.

Participating at the most recent APIC Congress, she found that the young specialist generation is  more realistic concerning the health threat caused by HAI and more open to patient participation in health cares.
